Review Of The Other Phytocannabinoids: Benefits and Uses.

We've probably all heard of THC and CBD by now, but they are only two of the 113 Phytocannabinoids found in the hemp plant, with two more on top of that discovered very recently.

More studies are being done on these other cannabinoids and their potential uses, but what do we know already?

Let's start with the two we know something about just to remind you of what they do.

CBD – AKA Cannabidiol.

Along with THC, it is one of the most commonly known phytocannabinoids. It is currently being sold across the UK in CBD Oils, CBD Capsules, and CBD Topicals. CBD is a non-psychoactive phytocannabinoid, meaning it can't get you 'high'.

Unlike THC, it does not directly activate the endocannabinoid system; instead, it helps us to produce more endocannabinoids, which then go on to bind with the receptors and help our bodies maintain homeostasis. I.e., a balanced internal environment in a changing external environment.

Potential Benefits of CBD
Reduced Anxiety and Depression
Pain management
Reproductive health

Although there is a lot of research available on CBD, more is required. Several extensive studies are set to begin very soon into CBD's ability to affect sleep, mood, and pain as it has shown great promise in these areas.

Found in marijuana, is the phytocannabinoid that will get you 'high.' THC binds strongly with the Endocannabinoid receptors and mimics or disrupts the Endocannabinoid system, eliciting many different effects at once. THC is Illegal in the UK.

    Benefits of THC

Long-term use of THC is connected with adverse psychiatric effects, especially in adolescents that consume large quantities of it. The purpose of the compound in teenagers increases the risk of developing Schizophrenia.

      The Others

      CBG  (Cannabigerol)

First discovered in the 1960s is often referred to as the 'mother of cannabinoids' as it is the precursor from which all other cannabinoids are synthesised.

      Benefits of CBG
      Shows promise as an antibacterial
      Shows promise as an anti-inflammatory.
      May help regulate mood.
      May help regulate blood pressure.
Potential treatment for glaucoma and MRSA

        CBN – Cannabinol

One of the most prevalent trace cannabinoids and is synthesised when THC is broken, which usually occurs in older plants. CBN is psychoactive but Ten times less so than THC. While more research is needed, it is one of the more thoroughly researched cannabinoids.

        Benefits of CBN

          CBC – Cannabichromene

There is very little research into cannabichromene so far. However, it is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid and is the third most prevalent cannabinoid after THC and CBD. More research is required to understand the effects of this cannabinoid.

          Potential Benefits of CBC
